Pinguicula vulgaris L. , family Lentibularaceae, Vernacular name Common Butterwort.

Small carnivorous plant that traps small insects on the surface of its sticky leaves. Enzymes produced from the leaves digest the animals and the nutrients are absorbed by the plant. Carnivorous plants typically grow in in acid habitats that are low in nutrients.

Pinguicula can be found in wet habitats , such as bogs, moorland and wet rocks. It overwinters at ground level as a bud and can observed in flower between May and July.
